Patachocas — the guesthouse in Morro de São Paulo where I sleep when I'm there: the pool that memory already confuses with the lagoon, the palm out front, the white moon. I didn't paint the place — I painted what's left of it when I close my eyes. This is how the Arcadia series works: the places where I was happy, reduced to the shapes and colours that memory chose to keep — emotion simplified into forms.
