Cales Coves, in Menorca, seen from directly above. Almost the whole surface is water. A single figure floats near the centre, small enough that you might read the painting as abstract before you find her.
The yellow triangle in the corner is the only piece of land in the picture. It stops the blue from closing over itself and gives the eye somewhere to rest.
I keep coming back to this point of view. Looking down at someone in water is the only way I know of painting a person without describing them.
