Description
Praia da Ilha de Faro, on the night of the strawberry moon. The moon rose while the sun was still going down, and for a few minutes both were in the sky at once.
The painting holds the two events on one surface, which is not how a camera would have seen it. This is memory of time rather than memory of a place: the horizontal bands are less a beach than the order in which things happened.
